And also, why are people saying that Facilier is one dimensional? lets take a look at some Disney villains who don’t have much going for them in the motivation area.
Malificent: ok. granted she was pretty damn evil to start, but still, snubbed from a party you undoubtably didn’t want to attend in the first place is grounds for murder?
Ursula: All were given is that she wants power cause supposedly she could do it better than Triton? Umm… yea, we could’ve used a little more than that.
Shan-yu: Attacks all of China! Cause he….is gray, and a hun, and huns are evil cause….Uhuh. I mean even if you did kidnap the emperor and try to take his place, who will listen to you? The guards? You have like 10 or so henchmen left, not to mention you’ve secluded your self in a palace surrounded by people who are trained to defend it. So trying to be emperor doesn’t work. And why does he want to kill the guy? Revenge? Cause he built the wall? Did he tear down your home or something? What? This guy seems to be evil just for being evil.
Lady Tremaine: Really the only reason i could derive is that Cinderella was prettier than her own daughters so she was jealous. I mean its an okay reason, but somehow I doubt it would lead to outright child abuse.
Queen from Snow White: Ok before I’m flamed, let me say this, the queen already showed everyone that she had spells for changing her appearance? So instead of trying to kill snow, just give yourself a better appearance, I mean why make yourself uglier than the person you’re trying to overshadow in terms of looks. Or for that matter, why not just turn snow’s looks into your old hag bit? I mean it was a drink, who’s to say she couldn’t slip it to her?

Anyway, this is just something I wrote to those who complain too much. People its a movie, a children’s movie, and one that happens to be pretty damn good than most of the stuff that came out this year. Need I remind people of the horror’s of New Moon, 2012, Friday the 13th, X-Men Origins, G- Force, and Transformer’s 2?

I never expected it to be this good. I came in thinking it would be a delightful Disney romp, but it was so, so, SO much more. The characters, the music, the artwork all meshed together to create something so Beautiful and Perfect that I have to capitalize the words to do it justice. There was nothing in that movie that didn’t need to be there.

And the characters! I loved each and every one of them; even the firefly, who I thought was going to end up being an annoying comic relief character. Every character in that movie was just so wonderful and well developed. Even spoiled little Charlotte was incredible. She was essentially a spoiled little rich girl who got everything she ever asked for and never worked a day in her life. But she was caring, she sacrificed something she had always wanted just so that someone else could be happy; and that scene was just so wonderful that it nearly brought a tear to my eye.

Oh and Naveen! Disney has some magical talent to make smug bastards likeable, first with Kuzco, then with Naveen. He was a guy who knew he was hot stuff, but meant no ill will. He didn’t try to use his looks to take advantage of people and he grew so much as person during the course of the movie.

But the best character was undoubtedly Tiana herself. She was everything I could ever admire in a female character, and trust me, I don’t like many. I can barely make a list of ten heroines that I like, but I can assure you that Tiana has become a permanent part of it. She was smart, talented, reasonable, kind, and more importantly, a hard worker. She worked hard for her dream and was determined to make it happen. It was just inspiring. A character from a children’s movie was inspiring. More so than most female heroines from adult movies that came out this year. She was just such a powerful character that now I’m at a loss as to whether or not I place her above Belle on my list.

Anyway, I don’t want to say anymore because everyone should see this for themselves. Go watch this movie. It is every single synonym for extravagant that I can think of. It put a spring in my step, and even when I got home I was still dancing. And I don’t dance, ever.

• The Princess and the Frog: Disney goes back to the drawing board (nationalpost.com)

First off, NO SPARKLING. I don’t need to repeat myself on this. Vampires burst into flames, but due to my finickiness over plausible details(as spontaneous as combustion can be, I still can’t accept fire coming out of nowhere the minute the sun hits them), I fix it up so what happens is basically this:
Vamps in sunlight will get a sunburn. the effect would be like getting a regular sunburn, only about 3 times faster. that’s in the first 5 minutes. By the next 5, the burn will develop into a 2nd degree burn, and after 10 minutes of sun exposure, the Vamp would already be well on his way to 4th degree and be completely unable to move due to excruciating pain and the effect of a really nasty case of heatstroke. Will still be alive for another 10 minutes, but if the vamp has been in the sun for over 30(in total, not extra) then their bodies will have completely burned away leaving no shred to heal.
Second. Edward Cullen would have been turned by Carlisle, who in blood lust(due to not feeding in a large amount of time) bit him and drank from him. However, he regained himself before he had completely killed him and decided to turn him(no venom, just drink until dry then give a little of their blood).
Edward, having been dying of influenza would be incredibly relieved at first because he has been given a new chance at life, and develops a new respect for it. However, after a few weeks of his new life as vampire, he begins to wonder whether or not he deserves it. After all he was given the chance to live only so he could feed over the life of others. It is then that he decides to feed only on animals.
Years go by and Ed spends them doing everything he’s ever wanted to do. See the world, learn to play various instruments, and indulge himself in relationships with different women(human and vampire, and yes he does get laid, i mean come on, hes 17). However, these relationships don’t hold anything for him, as they are done purely out of lust, with no real emotional connection. He continues looking for someone to share his interests, but so far none have.
Eventually in the present day, his travels around the world had led him back to Forks(having lived for 100 something years, Ed has been around the world several times). While driving, he gets lost in his thoughts. He wonders if her should keep going on, as he really has nothing holding him to life, no one to live for, no one to care for, and nothing more to do as he’s done nearly everything by now. As he gets lost in his thoughts, Ed crashes into Bella, driving on the road.
MAJOR REIMAGINING UP AHEAD: I’m making this too long so i’m going to pick up the pace here. Bella’s mom remarried and she’s unhappy. Feeling that her new father could never replace her old, she runs away from home to be with her real father in Forks. She’s alone on the road in the middle of the night when Ed crashed into her. Luckily, she was driving next to him(crashes aren’t as bad when its like that) and so she survives, but is left with major injuries. Ed feels bad, takes her to the hospital, but because he “Doesn’t exist”(i.e. off the grid) he can’t stay lest they ask questions. Bella is confused, wondering how the hell she got there and Ed is wracked with guilt. He wants to make up for his mistake and so he shows up in her room and tells her what happened. Bella is pissed, but can’t be completely angry with the guy because at least he saved her life and that counts for something.  The only thing she asks is that he call her dad so that he isn’t crapping himself with worry. Bella then moves in indefinitely and gets into school as soon as possible (despite her injuries) so that she can make something of her life so that she doesn’t end up like her mother who ended up in a dead end marriage with her only option to be remarrying for money.Ed helps her with getting to and from school(seeing as her legs are in no condition to press a pedal and he feels like he owes her one)

Ed finds her determination in spite of massive injuries inspiring and he decides that he wants to get to know her better. He tries to ask her out, but she keeps turning him down, wanting to focus on her studies rather than go out with the guy who almost killed her. The months pass and Bella recovers, no longer needing help from Ed, but can’t help feeling attached to someone shes gotten to know in the time she was recovering. she decides to give him a shot and goes out with him. They find that they share a love of literature, music, and enjoy having intellectual conversations with one another. Ed comes to really trust her and tells her his secret, she’s freaked out cause he killed people and stops talking to him, but she feels heartbroken cause she was starting to really care about him.

Cue the ponytail douche: James. I didn’t change much there. He has no morals, doesn’t care who he eats, and happens upon Bella because she still has Ed’s scent on her.  Being the massive douche that he is, he tries to “play” with his food by torturing her, he goes after her while she’s home alone, telling her that she’ll amount to nothing, she’ll just work hard for the rest of her life and die. Bella’s unnerved by it, but gets her thoughts together and flat out tells him she’s not going to take that crap from him.  Bella then reaches for her dad’s shotgun that he keeps under the table in case of emergencies, shoots him in the face at point blank and again in the legs to make sure he’s immobilized(as her father taught her self defense). She takes the gun with her, picks up a knife on her way out of the kitchen and gets in her car while James is still healing. He heals, he’s pissed, and Bella’s driving into the city where he wouldn’t want to expose himself. Eventually she reaches the turnpike and tries to head back into a public area, but something jumps on her car. Its Ed, he wants to know whats going on cause he wants to help. She’s still not sure she wants his help, but in her current state she cant complain.

James catches up with them and Ed manages to get him away from the truck.  They fight, but due to James experience he holds the advantage. Bella tries to shoot, but they are moving too fast to aim. She then gets the idea to prick the tip of her finger with the knife(thumbtack sized cut). The blood gets James attention, he stops. She takes her chance to shoot him again in the legs. Then she tells Ed to get out of the way and she runs James over with her truck. She parks it on top of his badly mutilated, but still barely alive body. She runs a good distance away from it and shoots the car in the engine, causing it to blow up and kill James once and for all. She thanks Ed for the help, but he thanks her, saying that now he owes her more cause she saved his life just now. He apologizes to her, and for his years of when he killed humans. He promises to her that he will do all he can to atone for it, so long as he can still be with her. She’s still a little skeptical and tells him that she’ll give him a shot, and the two begin a relationship. The end.

Twilight is not a classic, and quite frankly anyone who says so should have the pleasure of Shakespeare rising from his grave, stabbing them in the eye with his quills, and choking them with the crumpled up pages of his rejected plays. And I’m not going to sit here and whine without just cause. I’m going to tear this thing a new one, and hopefully this will enlighten many.

The writing style is god awful, why the hell do people praise it? Sticking adjectives every few words is not excellent and beautiful prose, it’s just dragging out the sentence. you really only need to say what needs to be said and you’re done. why does a sentence need two adjectives meaning the exact same thing to describe the subject? If I was going to describe a light-bulb I wouldn’t say it was shining and illuminating. It’s the same damn thing! Why repeat yourself? The only time people ever pull this stunt is when they’re trying to hit the minimum on a 1,000 word essay. To try it out in a form of entertainment is just poor writing.

Now for the twat known as Bella. Bella is bland. Plain and simple. She has no personality of her own, she is just defined as being smart, clumsy, and plain-looking. How is that a personality? Those are character traits not a personality. A personality would entitle the words stubborn, shy, eccentric, short-tempered, etc…

Also, Bella degenerates into an obsessive and overly dependent wacko. Some would argue that “Hey she’s in love, anyone would do that”, and to that I add “Would You?” Honestly, would you? The most anyone spends mourning something, anything, is a few weeks. anymore than that and you officially qualify for having an unhealthy obsession and in serious need of therapy. Now that would be interesting to watch. Instead of a burly wolf boy to come to her rescue, it would have been more interesting to watch her go downhill. Watch how her already shaky psyche just completely shatters when he leaves. Watch her fall to pieces to small that it would seem irreparable. and then have her improve. Let her pull herself out of the grave she dug with her own two hands. Watch her change her life for the better without anyone’s help. Let her realize that she doesn’t need someone to pick up her pieces. They’re her pieces, why can’t she pick them up? Now doesn’t that sound interesting? and then when she finally has her act together, have the thoroughgoing douche come back. then there could have been even more drama where she says the expected “How could you leave me, Do you know what I’ve been through? Do you know what I had to do to forget about you?, etc…” and hell have the rest of the story be about him trying to win her back. Having to actually struggle to be even recognized in her eyes. I mean honestly, the woman could have done so much more with this series. she could have made Bella a female role model to look up to, and instead she reduces her to the dumbass in distress that she is now.

Also, her level of selfishness is ridiculous. I mean she wants Edward solely for looks, cause Meyer sure as hell hasn’t elaborated why. Does she like him because he’s smart? Funny (doubt it)? What woman!?WHAT!? Not only that but it borders, no, not borders, completely crosses the line in to a social disorder. She wants the hot guy, she manipulates the wolf boy so she gets what she wants, she teases everyone, its just hateful. And wanting to be a vampire? She only wants it so she doesn’t have to grow old, and wrinkly, and ugly, and eventually (like every damn one of us) die.  She wants it more for that reason than because she wants to be with Edward. And when he doesn’t comply, she cries, whines and screams. Like a five year old begging for dessert. Why do people want to be her? It rapes your mind, that’s how unfathomable  this series popularity is.

I’ll write more later but for now, I’m all ranted out. So I’ll leave you with a little something I’m working on. I’ve just finished adding the base colors and I’ll be adding the shades in now:

Bitten is a book about the ONLY female werewolf and how she tries to live her life despite her ‘handicap’. Later there’s something about a werewolf uprising (what a surprise, an uprising in a werewolf novel, never heard that before) and I don’t know I haven’t gotten there yet.

The main character, Elena, is described as being strong willed; and yet so many times within just the first two chapters she smashes this concept. I mean in the prologue she changes in her werewolf form and starts stalking this guy. while she does it she thinks about killing him fast and then she says something about not being able to control that primal urge and she just seems to accept it. There is no way you can call a character that gives up that easily ‘strong willed’. If she were really strong willed, then she would at least think about how much she’s trying to hold it at bay, to flush all those ideas from her head, no matter how deeply ingrained into her werewolf psyche. Strong willed does not mean bad-ass, it means that you will fight something, and you will fight it hard (whether it’s tangible or not). I will say that she is a bad-ass capable of holding her own, but she isn’t strong willed. People look up the definitions to words before you start using them improperly.

Another thing, the author expects the reader to believe that in a world with over 6 billion people, where over 1,000 animal attacks happen within the year, that there are only 35 werewolves. Now i can understand if they believed they were the only ones due to living in a secluded area with minimal contact from the outside world; but seeing how she introduced something about werewolves having a psychic link with each other, she pretty much threw that reason out the window. Also, even more ridiculous, that out of 35 werewolves, there is only one female. If these people are as primal as she described, then there should definitely be more. And I don’t mean born wolves (cause in this book only the males get the ‘gene’), I mean turned. 35 males that are extremely primal and only go to women for sex and not one of them turned one? Not even by accident? Not possible. This woman shatters the suspension of disbelief faster than a sonic boom shatters a glass wall.

Now I may be too hard on this book, but honestly if you fall flat in the first two chapters, you really need to question how well you think things out. If you’re going to write a book, put effort into it, don’t just half ass it. For the book I’m writing I actually have several sheets dedicated solely to developing characters, making sure the plot makes sense, working on every little detail so I’m not left going “ummmmm” if someone ever asked me about it. It’s this kind of writing that makes people say things like women are only good for writing sappy romances.You reinforce the stereotype, and honestly we really need to bring that back up. Especially after Stephanie Meyer knocked it down by a couple of HUNDRED pegs.

Now for slightly off topic rant. Why does everyone like the Howling? I’m not saying it’s awful, but I’m not saying it’s great either. People praise the crap out of it, but why? The plot can hold up okay but you have to admit it’s really weak. as for the characters, they’re not bland, but they’re also not well-developed. They’re just ‘meh’.

Never mind, I’m getting tired. Might elaborate later, might not. Seeing as I really don’t want to waste my time with either one. The only thing I can say that is positive about both is that now I have a basis for things not to do when writing a story or fleshing out characters.

Oh and before someone gives me grief about Meyer. She is a terrible writer, and if you want to argue this point further, let me leave you with this one simple question: If Meyer is as good as everyone says she is, then why hasn’t she won an award for her writing(teen choice awards don’t count) Stephen King and J.K. Rowling have won several, why hasn’t Meyer?

Found Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes on Nicktoons, thought I’d give a shot. Unfortunately, it suffers from a mess of problems.

• Reed Richards: His design is okay, you can believe he’s somewhere in his 20′s. However, his voice just flat out sucks. I mean it just DOESN’T  sound right. You see Reed and you imagine him having a completely different voice, but then you get the principal from Smallville, and it just really doesn’t mesh well. Also, he doesn’t really give an impression of being the genius leader of the FF. Sound like a guy imitating a genius by saying a lot of scientific hoopla, but not a genius.
• Johnny Storm: There is nothing to like about him. His design would be okay, but his hair is just weird. I know it’s an anime style and gravity defying hair is nothing strange, but its just weird. I mean any incarnation of Johnny kept a short cut (different style depending on decade) but this is just off. Not only that but the color is lighter than Susan’s. They’re supposed to be brother and sister, but their hair color is different, when in the comics they’ve always had the same color. Anyway, design aside, they really overplay him. They try to make him out to be a selfish idiot, but they just go too far and he just seems like he has ADD. I mean, there’s this one scene where Reed shows everyone that their neighbors have been acting EXTREMELY out of the norm. All the FF asks questions regarding it (obviously and rightfully concerned) and Johnny goes from slight concern (“What’s going on” he says) to asking if anyone wants pizza. Now I could understand if he said it in a tone that implied he was trying to calm everyone down with a joke due to the terrifying situation, but no, he was completely serious. And that’s just one scene. In the comics Johnny’s been selfish and a joker, yeah, but when a situation gets serious, he in turn get serious as well. He may be an idiot, but at least he knows whens the time to joke and when to get focused, and this Johnny was joking all the time. Just outright hateful.
• Susan Storm: She’s okay. She’s strong and independent and doesn’t take crap from the other FF members, I’ll give her that. However she suffers from Super Heroine Dumbass Disorder. Basically meaning, even if she has pretty strong powers, the heroine will either be easily  taken out, captured, or she will just stand around (I’m not kidding) and wait her turn to fight. For example, in one episode, the group is attacked by the mole man and some weird mud creatures. They do the standard “showing everyone’s part of the fight” but eventually Reed, Johnny, and Ben get taken out of action one way or another. And then they show Susan, who apparently has been standing around doing nothing (They don’t even show her fighting in the background) while they were fighting. And no she wasn’t preoccupied with enemies of her own, she was just there. Alone, watching. And the minute she tries to attack, she gets captured, 5 seconds flat.
• Ben Grimm: He’s left out alot, so the only thing to say is that he’s rarely touched upon.
• Skrulls: Okay I can understand aliens having a shaky knowledge of humans so they’d get a few things wrong when trying to impersonate them. However, they have a full scale model of the Baxter building, all rooms in it, all neighbors in it, including people who live outside of it (Alicia and Willy) and they have no idea how humans function or how their neighbors behave. First of all, how did they know what they looked like? They either:

1. Observed them via camera. Which would have meant that they would at least know how they behave.
2. Scanned their minds when they captured them. But that would mean that they would still know how their neighbors act. Also if they did scan their minds, then there wouldn’t be a need to observe them to see how their powers work.

So the skrulls just don’t make sense. I mean an advanced alien species and they can’t get human physiology right even if they observed them in a an attempt to trick the FF? It reeks of Tim Story plot holes, and the last person you want to write like is Tim Story.

• Soldiers: just soldiers, especially the SHIELD ones. In the Hulk episode they are sent to take out both the FF and the Hulk. But they’re sent in without any info about how to take them out. They act surprised at each one’s display of abilities. The worst had to be trying to catch Susan (one of them actually says “We can’t find the INVISIBLE woman”) and only after she hits them do they turn on their infrared; which sucks cause  it only shows flashes of her as she moves (like if the infrared cut frames). I mean they are supposed to be heavily funded and they can’t even afford a pair or GOOD infrared devices.

There’s a hell of alot more, but they escape me at the moment. Overall this show is pretty to look at, but then again so were the movies, and everyone knows how those turned out. Hopefully they might make a whole new series what with all the Marvel reboots being planned.

I’ve been doing some more drawings. A character from my story, a ballpoint pen pic of Alice (from Alice in Wonderland) with a massive gun, and some simple cell shaded pics of Little Red Riding Hood, Alice and Dorothy.

Anyway something I really want to rant about is the new show, The Vampire Diaries. I already had a low opinion about it considering that everyone has been writing vampire romances since Twilight. Simply put, this show is slightly better than Twilight, but nowhere near as perfect as True Blood. Now I know that everyone in the show is in high school so I shouldn’t expect much development from them; but honestly they are all carbon copies of each other, with only a few minor differences. The acting was bearable, and the effects were okay; but I couldn’t help cringing every time they went for a cheap scare. “Ooooo, a cemetery(how original)! Ooooo, a crow ( who hasn’t done that before )! Ooooo, mysterious fog ( the origins of which we will not question). I mean seriously, this one episode rips off of several different horror movies that its more of a clip show than an episode. And another thing, what is wrong with that Stefan guy? I mean I know he’s supposed to be angsty and whatnot but come on! Is the furrowed brow look the only expression he knows how to make ? I mean Angel from Buffy has more reasons to brood, but at least there was some variety to his facial expressions. Other than that its a show catered to the already brain dead fans of Twilight. As for people looking for a good vampire show, check out True Blood. There’s a great plot, good action, INCREDIBLE character development for absolutely every single character ( even the newly turned Jessica!). You can also catch the first three seasons of Buffy on Hulu. Its wayyyy better than Twilight or Vampire Diaries could ever be; having strong characters, good plot lines, and great action.
